A little sunshine and a quick warming trend takes place for the next few hours.

A boundary that's been set-up in northern Indiana (and has brought South Bend nearly 3" of rain in the past 4 days) will finally push south through the state. That will act as a trigger to help storm development this afternoon.

WE NEED THE RAIN! It has been a very dry start to May -- we currently have a nearly 2" rainfall deficit for the month.

Going back one month to April 15th -- Indianapolis is running 3" below average.

While we need the rain, it'll be tough at the track today with hit-or-miss storms through the afternoon. Temperatures climb to the mid 80s.

Futuretrak 13... scattered storms begin to develop between 12-3pm.

It won't be an all afternoon washout, but the storms that do move through will bring heavy rainfall, thunder, and lightning. Keep in mind this will be through the evening hours... impacting any outdoor plans. Make sure to download the Live Doppler 13 weather app if you're out and about to monitor the storms on the interactive radar.

Some storms across the far southern tier of Indiana could be strong this evening.

The risk is low, but an isolated storm or two could contain large hail and damaging wind gusts. The primary threats to watch for will be the heavy rain and lightning.

The line of storms will exit the state just after midnight. Skies remain mostly cloudy with a stray shower mainly south of I-70 through the overnight.

You'll notice a change in the air tomorrow on the backside of the front. The air won't be as humid with a northeast wind. We start our Wednesday in the lower 60s (some areas north could see the 50s!) rebounding to the lower 80s. This is still 10° above average for the time of year.

Most of the day is dry with more sunshine north and a slight chance of stray showers across the southern half of the state, 20%.

We're mainly dry for the remainder of the week. Not as warm with highs near 80.

Looking ahead at next weekend, another storm system is set to bring rain back into Central Indiana late Saturday into Sunday.

It's a big weekend with Indy 500 qualifications at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, so make sure to check back closer to the weekend for the latest rain timeline.
